Description:

this project is part of bailey park which is located in the Mcdougall-hunt neighborhood of detroit. the residents of the neighborhood have cared for this abandoned lot and envision making a park that values families, community, and connectivity. The alley way in particular will showcase the power of storytelling, art, and the significance of placemaking. the historical art walk alley experience is equal parts museum, art gallery, and front porch oral history. Visitors to the park will take in artwork, historical photos, and narratives rich with city and neighborhood history. Signage will highlight the histories of some of the first African American doctors, lawyers, nurses, and business owners who lived in Detroit. Along the alley walk are three colorful “porches” where visitors can sit and listen to or read about these histories, a nod to the houses which used to exist along this alley. we were so honored to be a part of helping the bailey park ndc achieve their vision and hope for many good things to come their way.
