CURRENT OPEN POSITIONS:

Architectural Designer

Center Design Studio in Ann Arbor, Michigan is currently seeking a motivated architectural designer with 3-5 years of experience in the design of residential projects including renovations, additions, and new home construction. Center Design Studio currently has projects throughout Michigan and the greater contiguous United States ranging from ground-up home construction to interior renovations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B. Architecture, M. Architecture, or equivalent experience

  • 3 years minimum experience in a professional setting within the Architectural Design field, or a directly related field

  • BONUS: Technical experience specific to construction or fabrication is a huge bonus -- Center Design Studio is a Design Build business model, and has active construction projects.

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS:

  • Software & Drafting proficiency

    • ArchiCAD (preferred)

    • Computer Aided Drafting Experience (in some form is required, whether autoCAD, Revit, or other software)

    • 3D Modeling software knowledge

      • BIM knowledge preferred, not required

    • Adobe Creative Suite

      • Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign preferred

    • Basic spreadsheet knowledge (Excel, Google Sheets, or similar)

  • General knowledge of Construction including, but not necessarily limited to, foundation systems, residential and commercial framing methods, construction materials, building systems, etc.

  • Construction Documentation knowledge with the ability to create accurate floor plans, elevations, sections, details, and presentation drawings.

  • Basic understanding of MBC (or IBC) and familiarity with local municipality zoning codes and building department processes.

  • Basic knowledge of Sustainability, sustainable practices relative to residential construction, and/or LEED or Passive House certification

  • Professional Skills

    • Strong work ethic with a passion for learning, growth, and professional development

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

    • High attention to detail and accuracy

    • General organizational skills are a must

    • Critical thinking and initiative to continually improve upon project designs

    • The ability to work independently while still collaborating with team members is critical to the success of any candidate

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the design and implementation of projects from conception through construction by effectively collaborating and communicating with clients and project partners throughout the design and build process.

  • Author and coordinate the documentation of design, bid, permit, and construction drawings working with feedback from various trades and project partners.

  • Manage and own the process in order to progress projects forward. 

EMPLOYMENT PACKAGE:

Center Design Studio is based in Ann Arbor, Michigan as are most of our clients. While many tasks can and will be completed remotely, there may be an in-person meeting required from time to time. Your schedule will be flexible as long as expectations around our established job performance are being met.
